Last week just past we went Saturday night out! You know the good type of Saturday night out with friends; glasses of fizz at home whilst waiting for the taxi, cocktails someplace new, and dinner in a good solid gastro-pub type setting - that type of Saturday evening out!
After an unplanned, but very hibernation themed January after returning home from holiday, it's been good getting out on a Saturday night more regularaly and joining other people for the evening. It makes the weekend feel longer for me, and gives me an excuse to get dressed up... I like getting dressed up, always have. Read More
I have not worked in an office for over four years now, but I did squeeze in a little over three years worth of office working, Monday to Friday, 9-5 style, between graduating from university and quitting it all to own a cafe. What I remember doing a lot of with my work colleagues back in my office days was discussing the weekends. This may not be the same now, or it may have just been me and my particular co-workers, but I have a very clear memory of having the same types of conversations, with people from around the offices, and even across the different places of work I held in that time.
Monday to Tuesday would be full of discussion of "what did you get up to at the weekend?" in amongst some work chat as well, because, I did do some work! Read More
I've started writing this on Tuesday morning at 7:08am. There was light as I woke and left my warm bed at 6:32; I can hear birds and there is more light... spring is coming.
This is just a quick post to self, that I shall likely expand on in a proper post at a later date as there's a few factors I could go into wayyyyy more.
I'm not a personal body hater, and I count myself lucky as being in the small portion of women who aren't always looking for their faults and berating themselves due to the ideals other people (read media) place upon us. Read More
I feel this is a post I need to write, before I talk about other travel things here, such as plans of where I'd like to go and where I've been. Before I discuss the beauty of the beaches on my honeymoon, or the great little gems I've found for a cold winter break.
It is a post that means something to me, so with that I immediately feel stifled as to how to write it; my writing quality does not match the feelings of my words. I have that kind of block on writing it for fear it won't properly match my feelings. But I wanna write this point of opinion down all the same.
So instead, I'm just going to write, and not worry if it's not as long and reasoned as I'd like. Read More
Late last autumn we were approached, by two customers-turned-friends, about an opportunity for going bigger with our cafe business; about taking on a currently unused premises, not too far from our own on the main street, but in a great little setting on the canal. It would have allowed us to own and run a second cafe premises, over the spring and summer months, and pick up the canalside trade, which in Middlewich is quite sizeable due to locals using the towpath and the canal boaters themselves.
Scroll forwards to January and we finally got to view the premises in question, and after a second visit, we got to talking at length with our friends who own the premises, and had asked us to take it on as our own. Read More
On Saturday night, we finally made it to The Roebuck Inn of Mobberley. We like going out to eat come the weekends, as having cooked for people all week, and doing all the tidying up that goes with providing the service, it’s really hard to want to do it some more come Saturday eve.
We’ve not been to The Roebuck before, but it’s part of the same pub family as one of our most frequented so we had high hopes. And WOW, did they deliver or what - we had a bloody GORGEOUS evening!
But this isn’t about food, or the restaurant, this is about documenting a little further some of what I love to wear. Read More
I read one of those quote image things earlier today on Instagram; “create the words you would like to read”, or something to that effect, and although I’ve read this quote in some direction or other before, the words struck today, and inspired me.
Because you know what I really like to read about and talk about… about people. All sorts of people. I like to find out about what they like, what they’re up to, what they think about. I like to know about their everyday habits, and how they spend their time. Read More
Good Monday Morning blog world!
I don’t work on Mondays, and have had two day weekends comprising of my weekend being Sunday and Monday for over two years now, and I have gotta say, the novelty of having a Monday off still has not waned. It feels like an extra special day off, despite for me, it not being an extra day – I work Saturdays after all!
I digress, the point is, it’s Monday morning, I’m sat at my little dressing-table-cum-desk, it’s fairly grey outside, I am clad in a real scruffy assortment of leisure wear and I don’t have to work today. My plan in fact for the day is a spa day, because I loves me a spa day, and there’s a fairly local one, with a great day spa rate, that I’m keen to try out. Read More
For the first time last year I listed out the books I finished within the year, allowing me to see at the end of year exactly what I'd read. I read 17 books in total, not a huge amount by some readers standards, but for me, I was quite pleased it was more than just an average of one a month which I had thought it would be!
Listing annually allowed me to see what type of books I had read, and what genres. AND, allowed me to get all reflective on my faves.
So here goes, these five books were my favourites of last year, and certainly ones I would recommend adding to your reading list. Read More
Despite the huge negative press given to January, I am a fan of the month. I LOVE the new year, clean slate feeling. This year though I feel really late getting myself organised and into 'January' mode... and am I right thinking we'll be hitting February in like a week?!
The first two weeks of this year I've been on a HOT holiday, hence the utter distraction from knowing what day it is, let alone what month. Back to work mode gained traction slowly, with a swift two days in, then a weekend of nothingness ; one of those weekends you know when you sleep, read, watch really good TV, nest and only leave the house to go out to eat - THAT!
