I wanted to write this post on Tuesday morning, because in my head ever since I've generally taken my weekend off as Sunday and Monday, I think of my week as Tuesday to Monday. So weekly round up of *ta-da* moments, seems fitting for a Tuesday morning... but hey, it's Thursday morning now, and I'm finally cracking open my laptop!
The Ta-Da moments feel lacking this week. But, I'm pressing on writing regardless, because if there's ever a time to reflect on positive and productive moments, it's when we least feel them right?
We had the busiest week of the year at our cafe
I nearly forgot this one, but I'm coming back and whacking it in the top spot! It's not really a moment, but last week may have felt a bit flat of other aspiring moments, because being at work in our cafe really did fill my head and use my body physically, because it was (on average) the busiest week at our business this year!
We love it when our little cafe is thriving for many reasons, pride, busyness, the days fly, and of course, financially. It's what makes us able to both be self-employed and live this life of being able to work together in our own business!
The photo above is of me in my new work frock, at the coffee machine, and ready half-turned to greet/serve customers; that new work frock must have been a lucky charm for its first week in business!
I finished my October keto "cleanse"
I've mentioned a couple of times here on my blog that since March I've been living a very low-carb, no-sugar lifestyle. I have yet to write more extensively than just a few recipes here and here, but I will at some point get my thoughts typed as I have a lot to say. Not in a preachy way, because believe me when I say I am a firm believer that we can all live and eat and do as the hell we like... but this blog is about my thoughts and how I live, and this is about me and what works/is working for me!
I'm also acutely aware that mentioning how we eat can be portrayed as body-bashing or something, but actually I'm a very body positive person, so I am nervous to write down my thoughts in case they are read in a skewed frame to how they are meant which I can't get down in typed word like I could in person (soz for the ramble!) So that's probably the biggest reason I haven't wrote the post I wish to, YET!
For this point though in my week's ta-da list I'll keep it simple; the end of October meant the end of my October Keto Cleanse!
Gemma and I followed a more prescriptive cleanse for this month, which worked well with my love of month long challenges.
The cleanse basically followed a month long recipe/menu plan, that was v low carb/no sugar as we have been since March, plus no dairy, no caffeine, no sweeteners, no nuts, no snacking and no booze (though I did drink on a couple of occasions due to wine school nights and, well, Saturday nights!).
We've eaten really well, and cooked every night. I think the lack of dairy and caffeine aside, the trickiest bit was that we didn't eat out all month until Saturday night, mentioned below, which for us is a really big deal as we regularly eat out.
I enjoyed the process and the challenge, and the fact that I now, maybe for the first time in my adult life, fit into EVERYTHING in my wardrobe, including the trousers and holiday dress that fitted on honeymoon but not since...
Discovered a lovely new bar in Sandbach
On Saturday night Gemma and I went out in Sandbach with two of the lovely ladies who've worked for us in the past and who are now good friends of ours, as a v belated thank-you night out for a load of extra work they've done for us over the last year at different times. We started with a pre-drink at a lovely new bar called Bar Six, where the simple premise is six whites, six red, six rose/sparkling wines, six craft beers, six specialist gins, and six simple cocktails, rotated/mixed up monthly.
I love the simplicity and the smaller drinks list that focuses on a fun rotation for customers. I will be going back, I really liked the place!
We had a little nagging job done at the shop
If you follow me on IG, you'll have read that I had a really disappointing episode this week in regard to getting a job done at home that needed doing... but at least the different man we had doing one of those little nagging jobs at our cafe was a success. It was in fact two pressing little jobs, and though they are not customer facing areas, they'll make a big different to us in the background.
I finished reading The Shining
And I finished reading this rather big book just in time for book club! I am super proud of myself, as I'm not a fast reader, and though I always try to get my book club reads read (it is a book club I organise and host after all!), sometimes, if I get started a bit late, I simply realise that I'm not going to get them read in time to discuss.
This was the first ever book I've read by Stephen King, and I enjoyed it far more than I was expecting to. It wasn't scary to me in the way the film was when I watched it years ago, and the writing is as wonderful as you would expect from such an acclaimed published author.
I am interested to read more from him, but maybe not those in the terrifying reads section!
We finished cat sitting
A really simple moment - finishing our latest stint of cat/house sitting for my in laws. It's not onerous, but it does mean an extra layer of logistics, working out where we'll be, trying not to forget things, and generally not sleeping in our own home.
I am always grateful just to be back home and living in one place!
I feel a lot more positive about the week that has just passed after writing this morning!
The rest of my week is looking very relaxed, which I am very grateful for! And ALL the fun is really commencing on Sunday when we fly to Berlin for my birthday!
How's your week been? Do you have weeks that feel a bit flat sometimes because life has just flown away? Do you find there's any sure fire ways to deal with that senseless flat feeling?
