This year I've developed a rather strong love for keeping, caring for, cultivating and seemingly collecting houseplants.
This isn't entirely new, I have had a few plants knocking about the house over the last couple of years, but this year the real love and abundance of them has made an impact on my home.
The oldest plant in our home is probably the aspidistra in our living room - apparently it came from a cutting from Gem's aunts mum - I think - it's decades old! Anyway, she thrives on neglect apparently and she's still doing well even sited in our dark, gets no-natural-light, living room.
Apart from the aspidistra, I've had a bowl of cacti, an orchid, and a few aloe veras (that have survived well despite my butchering earlier this year) going for a couple of years I think!
Fast forward to this year and my love of houseplants has seemingly grown exponentially.
I love the look of plants, and the shapes and character they bring to the home. And the fact they are growing living things, means they change and evolve and provide a lovely (to me anyway!) point of interest to my home.
It's gone from a few dotted about to window sills full! Full of actual potted plants, or cuttings growing... or at least trying to be grown!
The simple starts from cacti and aloes, now has developed into more varied plants. There's a dragon plant in my bedroom, along with a mother in laws tongue, and some pots of lithops.
My bathroom has a thriving tradescantia, a spider plant and a little fittonia.
My dining room, well, there's ferns and succulents, and jade and kalanchoes. I'm even trying my luck at growing an avocado plant from the pit!
I'm hoping to take some better photos, as I realise the ones above are a little mixed! But I'd like to share more about my little plant collection on here as it's something I'm only getting more interested in, and hopefully my little cultivating projects may appeal to some other mad plant-ladies out there.
Do you keep any houseplants? Any favourites?
