As we've tootled past the 22nd September, we can properly say that autumn is now here.
And today, whilst catching up reading some of my fave blogs, I came across an awesome autumnal themed blog post from my wonderful blog friend, Liz, who blogs at belovelive.com. Liz, an expat american (who's birthday it is today also - HAPPY BIRTHDAY LIZ), and her Swedish wife Lina, live in Sweden, but I won't go further into detail, as you can find out all about her lovely life if you so wish on her blog. I've read her blog since my very early blogging/blog reading days, back in early 2011, and I've commented, and generally been in touch with her all this time. I love her blog, and it's weird to consider someone I've never met a friend, but I do! We may have never met... but one day Liz we definitely will, I have no doubt!
Anyway, this lovely autumnal themed post I read from Liz today I'm using as my base for today's post, and sharing here - she loves to inspire so I'm taking her post and rolling with it today! The only thing I've changed in her questions was the word "fall", to "autumn", as it just does not feel natural to me to say it ;)
So, eleven autumnal questions to totally get me in the autumn mood on this soggy, going dark, late September Sunday evening...
What do you imagine when you think of autumn?
Autumn instantly conjures up images of golden fallen leaves, dirty puddles, and big scarves and coats. And big hot chocolates - I mean specifically selling more of them, not necessarily getting to drink them!
What’s the worst with autumn?
The internal debate of when, and for how long, to whack the heating on!
And what’s the best with autumn?
Gem's birthday and my birthday both fall during autumn.
Colder weather means getting the black tights and boots back out - mine got debuted for the season this eve as it happens!
A very convenient excuse to nest up at home, on the sofa, with shit loads of candles going.
The anticipation of Christmas getting nearer.
Your autumn outfit?
Aside from the daily rotation of leisure wear at home of pyjamas, onesie, and dressing gown... I like to dress as I always do; some form of midi skirt, black tights, black ankle boots, top, coat, faux fur scarf!
What do you have on your to do-list?
I don't have a specific list, and though the idea of making one does appeal massively to my nature in some ways, when I've attempted to make a seasonal type bucket list before I've always fallen a bit flat and failed to accomplish the items I wanted to do.
So, you know what, I'm not going to make any specific to-dos...
How do you treat autumn “depression”?
Personally, and gratefully, I don't tend to experience any SAD type depression, so this question doesn't really have an answer. I guess also, autumn actually feels like the time of the year when I'm experiencing my most positive mindset. The new term feel, the excitement of birthdays, our business tends to be a little busier this time of year also... so these all do their bit to keep me in my most happy state of mind.
Best music for dark, rainy days?
If I am listening, it's Florence, always; though I don't really tend to listen to much music when I'm at home.
Or "Fly" by Ludovico Einaudi - just google it, trust me, it's amazing!
What TV-series are the best to watch?
Emmerdale - though that's a soap I know, not a series - but Emmerdale always wins.
What is your favourite autumn meal?
I love autumnal style food. Slow roasted meats, roast veg - specifically broccoli and cauliflower. Or big, rich, full flavoured one pots like beef bourguignon.
Any trips planned?
YES! Thank goodness. Berlin for my birthday in early November, and Copenhagen to visit Gem's sister in late November.
How do you prepare for winter?
I don't think I necessarily undertake any specific prep for winter, although through autumn I do get excited for the festive season, and make plans for that busy time of year. We do usually go away on a bigger holiday over new years and into January, so there's a certain amount of prep we do in the run up to that... but this year we might not be going anywhere for long as we may have some stuff to keep up with at our business and home. I'm not trying to sound all cryptic, I'm just not able to share any more details yet.
AND - if anyone else wants to write their own post and share their answers too, let me know as I'd love to read them!
