I have in the past subscribed to a monthly samples beauty box. I also love getting hold of the special edition one-off boxes when they've got some interesting products. And then, there's beauty advent calendars - an actual thing! Who knew I'd ever advance that far into beauty samples obsession, but yep I had a particularly awesome one last year!
Well, such an advent calendar gave me my first try at the Alpha-H Liquid Gold product.
And... I have loved it ever since!
Admitedly, I haven't purchased a full size one yet, because I luckily snagged up another two 50ml samples for myself (one from a friend, and one from another samples box). However, as my latest bottle is getting close to the finish line, I will finally be treating myself to a big version!
So, what is it?
Well, on first glance it seems like an acid toner, but if you read the directions on the bottle, or any details online, it's fairly obvious this stuff is not just a sweep over and carry on with your beauty routine kinda product. It's much more of an overnight treatment, as you are directed to use over a cleansed face and then LEAVE IT AT THAT. Some sources state that it's an overnight serum, but I think the word overnight treatment works best.
What it definitely is, without a doubt though, is unique. I've not tried or read about any other product like it, and it is a treatment type that really works for me!
Does it not feel too dry?
I love beauty products, and I don't just look at the bottles, I like piling them on too. I never used to be so into skincare... but now I am a full convert. I like the results, but I love the practise of it all too. So, now, following my usual cleansing and acid toning, I would probably use a serum, and then an oil, and maybe a layer of moisturiser later on.
So, with Liquid Gold, I was initially unsure about the JUST LEAVING IT AT THAT advice. I thought a. I would get immediately dry skin, and b. I would feel tight and dry and unable to follow the directions. Now, I don't have dry skin as usual, I luckily have fairly normal skin, so maybe I wouldn't feel the same if I did have dryer skin.
But y'know, I can only go on my own results and for me it really really does work. And, I do not find it drying at the time and certainly not in it's results. Quite the converse in fact.
When I use this (which I do maybe 2 nights a week), I wake with a glowy, moist face, and I really do feel it's such a no fuss product that makes me feel fresh time and time again. I basically feel like it gives me a fresher complexion. My skin feels brighter, and any niggly underlying spots seem to tame themselves.
I fortunately have a fairly good complexion most of the time. I get occasional raging hormone induced outbreaks, but aside from that it's fairly good. I look after my face and it looks after itself back. Now I'm mentioning this as I believe this product would glean ever more obvious results if I had a poorer complexion to start with... but I can't test that.
As mentioned above I love piling on skincare, but occasionally it's nice to pare it right down to basics. And this is the product for me to really simplify with, without compromise. Cleanse, and then swipe this over and I'm done!
Also, I find it's great after a make-up heavy weekend, when your facial skin maybe needs a bit of extra love and a reset after being coated with different make up and you haven't got the effort to do said reset with a face mask.
Have you tried Liquid Gold? Anyone wish to suggest any other random lovely facial products for me to try?
